Learning and Participation Events Apprentice
Fixed-term contract for 2 years (September 2015 - August 2017)
Full-time (40 hours per week) - based in Purfleet, Essex
The Royal Opera House produces some of the best opera and ballet in the world. Our employees who work behind the scenes are as important to our opera and ballet productions as those who perform on stage.
As part of our innovative scheme to provide apprenticeships across our back-stage departments, we are pleased to offer a Learning and Participation Events Apprenticeship in our Learning and Participation department.
The Royal Opera House Learning & Participation team in Covent Garden and Purfleet delivers a range of community engagement and education projects and programmes, which aim to encourage participation in music, opera and dance as well as the production, craft and technical elements of theatre.
The apprentice will learn about, and assist in the delivery of learning and participation (education) projects at the Royal Opera House. The apprentice will be based in Purfleet, but time will also be spent in Covent Garden. The apprentice will study for a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Cultural Heritage Venue Operations which will be delivered by South Essex College. The majority of the learning required to achieve the qualification will be done within the workplace. There will be an opportunity to spend time at another venue in the second year of the apprenticeship.
While previous experience is not essential, applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- An interest in education within a performing arts organization or cultural venue.
Good organizational skills.
Very good people skills and the ability to work well within a team.
Experience of delivering good customer service.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and good computer skills.
The successful applicant will be paid £14,290 per annum, with a 2.5% rise after successful completion of the first 12 months. The apprentice`s college fees will also be paid by the Royal Opera House. Applicants must be 18 years old or over on 1 September 2015 and have work authorization for the UK. This post is subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.
Our apprenticeships are intended for those wishing to pursue a vocational pathway into backstage theatre, and offer the opportunity to achieve Level 2 and/or Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to GCSE (grade A* - C) and A Level). If you already have a degree or other equivalent higher education qualification, you will not be eligible for consideration for this scheme.
