The Royal Opera House aims to enrich people`s lives through opera and ballet. Home to two of the world`s great artistic companies - The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet, performing with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.

We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Head of Department (HOD) for the Men`s Tailoring Department within the Costume Department. The Assistant HOD is responsible for providing cutting, sewing and supporting the Cutter/HOD in costume production for Opera and Ballets, making costumes for men and women and ensuring the highest standards of work.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • BA/City and Guilds or equivalent in Costume Making / Tailoring/ Fashion.
  • Extensive experience of costume construction within a theatre environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of period costume and cutting and construction of tailored garments.
  • Excellent and accurate hand and machine sewing skills, knowledge of different sewing machines and their maintenance, familiarity with sewing terminology and techniques.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with excellent time management and able to work to deadlines.
