Casual Work - Lighting Systems


The Technical Department maintains a list of individuals who may be offered work as technical crew on a casual basis. Applications are invited from those with prior stage theatrical experience for inclusion on that list. .

Inclusion on the list of technical crew casuals is no guarantee that work will be offered, individuals are at liberty to decline any offers of work which are made. Those who are included on the list of technical crew casuals will be subject to ongoing assessment on the basis of: their availability for work, reliability, work ethic/commitment, skills development, attention to detail and attitude to safety.

Job role:

Lighting Systems casuals are required to work effectively as part of the Lighting team, participating in all necessary technical work for productions, maintenance and the general day to day running of a busy Lighting Systems department carried out to the highest possible standard of safety, efficiency and quality. This work can include: PAT testing, general maintenance & repair work and the construction of show specific practicals.

Person specification:

Ideally, we are looking for individuals with:

-A proven track record in Theatre and Live Events, Lighting or Electrics.

-Prior lighting experience and/or qualifications: electrical knowledge, rigging, lighting systems, PAT testing, fault finding and general maintenance skills.

-Excellent team work and communication skills

-Ability to follow instructions

-Self-motivated to acquire new skills and knowledge in Lighting

-Positive attitude to health and safety

-Good IT skills

-Awareness of BS7671 and BS7909

-IPAF 3a or PAV desirable

-Experience of working at height beneficial

Successful applicants will be asked to attend an induction and health and safety training session.
