The Royal Opera House wants to share these life-changing artforms with as many people as we can, working to enrich the cultural life of the nation by growing the public enjoyment and appreciation of exceptional ballet and opera.
The role:
We are now looking to hire a part-time Hats and Jewellery Senior Technician, to work within the team on all activities required for the making and altering for new, revived, co-productions and hired productions to the highest standards.
What you`ll bring:
This role will suit a candidate with strong communication skills who is also able to demonstrate:
- A Hat Making course qualification to degree level, or comparable qualification/degree in a relevant craft skill area.
- Excellent sewing skills, hat making including covered shapes, blocking, pattern cutting, cut and sew hats, wire work and costume jewellery are essential; a good knowledge of silversmithing, the repertoire of the RBO, maintenance for hats & jewellery, and a history of period costume are an advantage.
- Proven practical making skills and some experience of fitting hats within a costume fitting situation.
- The ability to accurately interpret design concepts from drawings, sketches & verbal instruction.
- A proven track record in craft skills with a major production theatre or venue or comparable film/TV experience.
- Team player with a collaborative approach to working, the ability to work unsupervised and a willingness to learn new skills and help train others.
