Job title:
Audience Insight Officer

Permanent; full time
£29,000 per annum
Based in: Covent Garden, London

The Royal Ballet and Opera continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. Our Covent Garden theatre has been at the heart of London and British cultural life for three centuries. We are home to two world-class Companies: The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera.

The Royal Opera House describes the place we work, not who we are. The whole is always more than the sum of its parts - we may be a House, but three quarters of our audience experience what we do outside this building. While our Covent Garden theatre is the nerve centre, the impact and influence of the organisation can be felt in every corner of the country, and around the world. Understanding our global audience (their behaviours, preferences and habits) is central to our mission to engage more people with our art forms through programming and commercial development, as well as reporting accurately to our funders and supporters.

We are now seeking to recruit an Audience Insight Officer into our Digital Product and Analytics Team. This role will focus on running customer experience research to provide effective analysis on RBO audiences against key objectives, in turn communicating robust and evidence-based recommendations to stakeholders across the organisation, enabling them to make informed and audience-centred decisions.

The ideal candidate will have a curious mind, with the ability to operate independently to agreed deadlines, producing high quality and accurate work. They will be able to contribute to the output of a multi-functional and collaborative team, working with a range of specialists across UX Research, Data Analysis, Pricing, Ticketing and Product Development.

They will be able to evidence :

  • Intermediate/Advanced Excel (especially the use of pivot tables)
  • The ability to interpret data to create actionable insights in the form of reports, dashboards and presentations
  • An understanding of accessible survey design
  • The ability to take a methodical, detail-oriented approach to planning and conducting analysis and research
  • Strong planning and time-management skills, with the ability to manage priorities and coordinate resources across multiple projects.

An understanding of the below will be beneficial and highly regarded so please do reflect these in your application if you have:

  • Experience with online survey software (e.g. Survey Monkey)
  • Experience with visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI)
  • An understanding of Net Promotor Score methodology
  • An understanding of audience research in context of the arts and cultural sector

The Royal Ballet and Opera is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We particularly welcome applications from those who are from a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are under-represented within our organisation. As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential minimum criteria for our vacancies.
