Fixed term contract for 18 months, available from July 2025
Up to £50,000 per annum based on skills and experience
Based in: Covent Garden, London
Full time; 40 hours per week
The Royal Ballet and Opera continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. Our Covent Garden theatre has been at the heart of London and British cultural life for three centuries. We are home to two world-class Companies: The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera.
We are in the midst of a major programme of work which will bring together a range of energy and sustainability initiatives, infrastructure replacement works, and individual projects which will help to transform the working environment across our estate. Like much of the RBO estate, the technical estate was installed in 1999 and is now reaching the end of its life or has been superseded by technological advancements.
The Technical Estate Renewal Team is underway in a multiyear upgrade of all the technical stage systems in the building. Ongoing and future works include upgrades of stage machinery, stage lighting, sound, video, and broadcast equipment, all delivered in close cooperation with operational colleagues working around a demanding rehearsal and performance schedule.
This newly created Project Support Engineer role will support the ongoing development, maintenance, and optimisation of newly upgraded SVB systems and infrastructure. This role will focus on establishing robust processes and procedures for the effective administration and servicing of new systems, while ensuring that legacy systems gradually adopt these practices until their scheduled upgrade.
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience supporting SVB systems in large-scale professional theatre environments. Familiarity with IP-based communication systems is essential; hands-on experience with Riedel Communications Artist & Bolero equipment is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge and experience in administering media-focused IP networks
- A strong understanding of current SVB technologies, with awareness of emerging developments.
- Experience supporting complex SVB and IT infrastructure projects, with heavy involvement during handover phase.
- A proven ability to develop and implement standardised asset management and maintenance processes
The Royal Ballet and Opera is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We particularly welcome applications from those who are from a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are under-represented within our organisation. As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential minimum criteria for our vacancies.
