The Royal Ballet and Opera continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. Our Covent Garden theatre has been at the heart of London and British cultural life for three centuries. We are home to two world-class Companies:The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera.

Our Technical, Production and Costume Department plays a leading part in ensuring our performances are of the highest quality by delivering technical excellence for every performance, rehearsal and event. With over 350 permanent staff supported by a pool of casuals the department is the largest within the RBO and covers everything from Lighting to Scenic Construction, and Stage & Flys to Costume.

The Armoury is a distinct small team within the Production arm of the department who are responsible for the making, repairing, running and touring requirements of the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet, and ensuring artists are comprehensively instructed in the safe use of weaponry for stage use.

We are seeking to recruit a Armoury Senior Technician who will support the Armoury Manager to participate in the day to day running operations, ensuring that all activities are carried out to the highest possible standard of safety, efficiency, and quality.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of handling or managing the use of weapons, ideally in a theatrical environment.
  • A high level of competence within two of the following: metalwork, woodwork, or leather craft
  • Experience of turning in metal and wood, or machining in metal an advantage.
  • Experience in machine sewing or saddle stitch.
  • Strong awareness of and adherence to Health and Safety policy and best practice
  • Strong Communication skills and team player with a collaborative approach to working.
