The Royal Opera House aims to enrich people`s lives through opera and ballet. Our Technical and Production Department plays a leading part in ensuring our performances are of the highest quality by delivering technical excellence for every performance, rehearsal and event. We are seeking to appoint an Armoury Senior Technician Technician to join our Armoury Department team, working closely with colleagues in the workshop, making and repairing weaponry, armoury, leatherwork props and related equipment. The job also involves working evenings and weekends overseeing the use of weaponry during rehearsals and performances.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience of handling or managing the use of weapons, ideally in a theatrical environment.
  • A high level of competence within two of the following: metalwork, woodwork, or leather craft. Examples may include: welding, silver soldering, wood carving, machining and turning in different materials, or structural and decorative leathercraft.
  • Knowledge and interest in historical arms and armour an advantage.
  • Experience in making swords, daggers and scabbards, belts, leather pouches and bags of a military type an advantage,
  • A mature attitude to the safety and security responsibilities involved in handling weaponry.
