Apprenticeships and Work Experience Officer

£18,000 per annum (£30,000 full-time equivalent)

Part-time (3 days (24 hours) per week), permanent contract

As the home of The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, at the Royal Opera House we want many more people to enjoy and engage in exceptional ballet and opera - both as audience members and as theatre-makers.

Opening our doors to the widest possible talent pool and providing opportunities for anyone to discover and experience the wide range of careers available back-stage is central to our people strategy. We have been providing apprentice opportunities in technical and production departments since 2007, and as of last summer 66 apprentices have graduated from our scheme, 88% of whom have continued to work in the industry. Our work experience scheme provides parallel opportunities for shorter-term exposure to the world of work across the full-range of our operations.

We aim for both of these schemes to be progressive and sector-leading, and we are now looking for a new Officer to run the day-to-day activities of the Work Experience scheme and provide support to the Apprenticeship programme.

This role will support the delivery of the ROH Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy by placing diversity considerations at the heart of both schemes.

We would love to hear from you if you can demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of supporting young people in the early stages of their careers
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, ideally with some HR experience
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people within and outside the organisation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and to work unsupervised
  • A proven commitment to proactively promoting diversity and inclusion

All of our staff are expected to uphold the Royal Opera House values: respect, openness and valuing the highest standards. The Royal Opera House is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We welcome applications from those who are currently under-represented in our workforce, in particular those who are ethnically diverse and/or disabled. As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential minimum criteria for our vacancies.
