The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House is seeking to appoint to the position of:

Section Principal Trombone

We invite applications from outstanding players with considerable recent relevant professional experience. The successful candidate will be a musician of the highest calibre who is self-motivated, reliable and versatile with the ability to work under pressure as part of an established team.

We intend to hold first round auditions in London on Wednesday 8th June 2022.

Our preference will be to hear shortlisted candidates in person, but should you be unable to attend on the scheduled date we will accept a recorded audition to be submitted by 9am, Wednesday 8th June 2022 (full instructions will be sent on request).


Please note we intend to contact shortlisted candidates by the end of Thursday 2nd June.


First round audition requirements will be:

1.Orchestral excerpts as per enclosed PDF.


We intend to hold second round auditions on Tuesday 28th June 2022 (afternoon) in person only.

Second round audition requirements will be:

1.Ferdinand David Trombone Concertino - 1st Movement (without cadenza) (accompanied - ROH will provide an accompanist or you may bring your own.)

2. Orchestral excerpts will be provided to shortlisted candidates.


The closing date for applications is: 9am, Tuesday 31st May 2022.


Should candidates who are shortlisted for trial work or offered permanent employment not have current UK work authorisation, ROH will provide support in obtaining the necessary permission to work depending on individual circumstances.
