Senior Strategic Funding Manager

The Royal Opera House aims to enrich people`s lives through opera and ballet. It seeks to be accessible and engaging, to develop audiences across the UK and to break new ground in the presentation of lyric theatre. As a charity, we could not maintain our range of activities, whether live or in digital form, from our artistic programme to learning and community outreach activities as well as training the next generations of artists, without the support of our funders, philanthropists and our members.


The Development and Enterprises Department are now looking to appoint a Senior Strategic Funding Manager. Reporting to the Head of Policy and Strategic Funding, in this role you will manage and grow a portfolio of relationships with Trusts and Foundations and other strategic funders. With the support of the Development Manager, you will drive forward this area of fundraising, working to objectives and targets, and ensure a high standard of reporting on agreed activities to our funders. This role is offered as a permanent contract, part-time average 24 hours/ week.


The ideal candidate will be an experienced team player, able to demonstrate these qualities:

  • A strong track record in fundraising from Trusts and Foundations and managing relationships at a senior level
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of relationships with funders and grow the portfolio in value
  • Highly effective writing skills for proposals, applications and reports to Trusts and Foundations
  • Ability to promote opportunities for funding within the arts sector and show good understanding of relevant projects and subject matter
  • Credibility and influence as an ambassador for the role internally and externally, able to operate effectively at all levels
  • Commitment to managing own learning and continuous professional development relevant to the role
