Health and Safety Manager

Permanent

Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum dependent on skills and experience

Based in: Covent Garden, London

The Royal Opera House continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance. The operation of the Royal Opera House is complex and demanding given its scale, the repertory model and the multi-disciplinary nature of our production processes. As well as our Covent Garden home, we run a production workshop and costume centre in Thurrock and a large store in Aberdare, Wales.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, dynamic and knowledgeable Health and Safety Manager to lead our H&S operation and strategy. The health and safety of all Royal Opera House employees, visitors, contractors, artists and members of the public is paramount and we aim to foster a culture of continuous improvement and a positive approach to safety. We want to communicate clearly to all staff and enable them to do their best work, knowing they are supported in creating a safe working environment for all.

This role will suit a candidate who is action oriented, flexible and can work well under pressure. We are a live 24/7 venue so the ability to adapt to changing priorities is crucial.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Chartered membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (or able to demonstrate working towards Chartered membership)
  • An excellent working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation and its application
  • Substantial experience of managing Health and Safety issues within a large organisation
  • The ability to deal with a diverse range of people in a confident and professional manner
  • Experience of undertaking accident investigations in a dynamic working environment
  • The ability to compose reports and communicate clearly and effectively, explaining complex concepts to staff and management at all levels

The Royal Opera House is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We welcome applications from those who are currently underrepresented in our workforce; in particular those who are ethnically diverse and/or disabled. As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential minimum criteria for our vacancies.
