Lighting Systems Technician


Fixed Term Contract to 31st August 2023

Starting salary: £36,312 pa


The Royal Opera House aims to enrich people`s lives through opera and ballet. Our Technical and Production Department plays a leading part in ensuring our performances are of the highest quality by delivering technical excellence for every performance, rehearsal and event.

The Lighting Systems Department at the ROH manages and improves the production lighting systems across all our venues. They manage the electrical and data infrastructure alongside the upkeep of thousands of items of lighting equipment. They are also responsible for the design and installation of set electrics in both new and revived productions.

We are seeking to appoint a Technician to join our Lighting Systems team for the 22/23 Season, working closely with colleagues to ensure operational and production requirements of rehearsals and performances are carried out to the highest possible standard of safety, efficiency and quality.


You will ideally have:

  • Accredited training to current standards in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, in line with BS7909/7671.
  • Experience with the testing and maintenance of lighting equipment and the management of asset databases.
  • Thorough understanding of current lighting equipment and systems and the implications of new product developments in line with the principles of the ROH Sustainability policy.
  • Ability to assess production needs for lighting requirements and identify and recommend any developments to existing systems or equipment.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office and other software pertinent to the role such as Lightwright and Vectorworks.
