Assistant Orchestra Manager (Members)


Fixed term contract - available from mid-March 2023 for a 12-month period

£38,318 per annum

Based in Covent Garden, London

40 hours per week with flexibility to work evenings and weekends around performance and rehearsal schedules.


The Royal Opera House continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House accompanies The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet on the Main Stage under the music direction of Antonio Pappano (The Royal Opera) and Koen Kessels (The Royal Ballet).

We are seeking to recruit a professional who will work closely with the Orchestra Manager to assist with the day to day running of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. They will lead on administering members schedules and will maintain the OPAS database and utilise it to provide administrative support for all orchestral activities.

This role will suit a strong team player who is well organised, can work well under pressure and is able to make effective decisions at speed. They will need to be both diplomatic and assertive, with the ability to think in a flexible manner and manage change in a positive way. Knowledge of the MU negotiated commercial recording agreements would be an advantage.

Can you demonstrate:

  • Significant hands-on practical experience of working with a professional orchestra
  • A detailed knowledge of the working practises and demands of a professional orchestra
  • Track record of taking and accepting responsibility for projects and initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Experience of OPAS or other event management system software (OPAS experience will be highly regarded but is not essential)
  • Competency across the Microsoft Office suite - Word, Excel, Outlook - and an ability to pick up systems and process quickly.
