Press Assistant

£24,500 per annum

6-month fixed term contract starting ASAP until March 2024

Full time; 40 hours per week with some flexibility for evening/weekend work

Based on site at ROH Covent Garden

The Royal Opera House continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming and social media to worldwide cinema screenings. The work of our Audiences and Media Department focuses on growing the love, advocacy and demand for the art presented by the Royal Opera House, so that we can share our work with millions across the world and grow our audience-generated revenues.

We are looking for a Press Assistant to join the Communications team and provide responsive and effective support during a particularly busy period. In this role, you will support the Opera and Ballet press teams in a range of activities, from ticketing and press night duties to logging and monitoring press coverage. This is an ideal opportunity if you are looking to build your career in press and media relations.

Our ideal candidate will be a team player, who can hit the ground running and demonstrate the following:

  • Some understanding and experience of working in a busy Press Office and an understanding of the working methods of the media
  • The ability to collate analytical data and compile reporting data accurately
  • A driven and proactive approach, with the ability to use own initiative, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with basic skills in current digital imaging processes and good aptitude for learning new applications
  • The ability to deal with a wide range of people and the media confidently, courteously and discreetly at all levels

Given this is a contract role, prior experience in an arts (dance, and music preferred) or media organisation will be highly regarded as will the ability to get up to speed with specialised subject-matter related to opera and ballet and become operational in a short space of time.

The Royal Opera House is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We particularly welcome applications from those who are from a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are under-represented within our organisation. As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential minimum criteria for our vacancies.
