The Royal Opera House continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. The Technology Department works to provide a service across the Royal Opera House Group, who depend on a variety of essential technology services every day.
We are now looking for an Applications Engineer to join the Technology Applications team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of applications, ensuring high availability, sustainability, and efficiency of our organisation. You will design, build, maintain and monitor both the operation and data of enterprise applications across the organisation.
This is an exciting role for a candidate with demonstrable applications experience who is motivated by delivering high levels of data security and best practice, will take an active role in mentoring junior members of the team and will support the Applications management team to ensure that the ROH is continuously evolving our applications portfolio.
The ideal candidate will be a team player who can evidence the following:
- Experience of drafting and maintaining procedures and documentation - you can set standards for the definition, security, and integrity of objects, and ensure conformity to these standards.
- Ability to lead the investigation and resolution of incidents, taking accountability for issues that occur and being proactive in searching for potential problems.
- Planning of system and acceptance tests, coordinating both functional and non-functional specifications - you can provide authoritative advice and guidance on test planning.
- A user focused approach, with the drive to achieve excellent user outcomes - you can collaborate with user researchers and can represent users internally.
- Significant experience of designing, building, and testing data products that are complex or large-scale.
- The ability to produce relevant data models across multiple subject areas and then select and implement the appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable, and future-proofed data solutions.
Please note this role will be known internally as Senior Applications Engineer within the Applications team structure. We welcome interest from those currently operating at a Senior level and well as those at Engineer level who are looking for the next step in their career, which is why the role is advertised with a banding based on skills and experience.
We value the diversity of thought and experience that new hires can bring to our organisation; experience of working in an arts or public sector organisation is not a pre-requisite, though the commitment to upskills quickly is.
The Royal Opera House is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We particularly welcome applications from those who are from a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are under-represented within our organisation. As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential minimum criteria for our vacancies.
