The Royal Opera House aims to enrich people`s lives through opera and ballet. It seeks to be accessible and engaging, to develop audiences across the UK and to break new ground in the presentation of lyric theatre.

The Costume Production Managers (also referred to as Costume Supervisors) are responsible for managing the development and creation of costumes for new productions and revivals for both the Royal Ballet and the Opera company.

Their role ensures that all activities are carried out to the highest standard of quality, efficiency and safety, and are delivered within agreed resources and budgets, providing effective leadership and management of staff.


You must be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive track record working with a major production theatre or venue, or comparable film/TV experience with supervisory experience
  • Specialist knowledge of costume fittings, alteration techniques, materials and products used for costume making and maintenance
  • In-depth knowledge of fabrics, modern and traditional methods of construction, and periods styles, with an ability interpret and realise them in practical terms.
  • Able to accurately interpret design concepts from drawings, visual references and verbal instructions
  • Excellent track record in demonstrating quality and flair in interpreting the designers brief, with a sympathetic and innovative approach to creative concepts


Although not essential, knowledge of opera and ballet repertoire or a keen interested in learning will be highly regarded.
