The Royal Opera House`s Audiences and Media Department plays a vital role in the success of the Royal Opera House, telling the story of the organisation and
encouraging people to engage with us - whether by attending a performance, seeing a live screening at the cinema, streaming a performance online, or coming in to enjoy the shop, bars and restaurants in our iconic Covent Garden building.
We are seeking to recruit a Surtitler to join the in-house ROH Studios Team. You will be responsible for providing subtitling, surtitling and translation services for stage, stream and cinema productions, as well as other content outputs.
This role will suit an individual who is flexible and adaptable, with the ability to plan and manage change, and who can react quickly to situations. You will work in a confident manner, with the ability to liaise with people at high levels and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of surtitling and subtitling both for live performance and digital content
- Excellent written English with strong editorial experience and skills
- A good knowledge of the opera repertoire with sufficient fluency in the three main operatic languages (Italian, French and German) and the ability to translate into excellent written English
- Experience of liaising with and commissioning translators
- A confident manner, being able to deal at a high level with directors, conductors and composers
- The ability to work under pressure, prioritise and produce high quality work to tight deadlines, with honed time-management skills
Please note, the ability to work flexible hours including regular evenings and weekends around the ROH performance schedule is required.
