The Royal Opera House (ROH) is among the world`s most celebrated arts institutions and home to two world class performing companies - The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, both supported by the equally renowned Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.

We tell stories from the great works of the past to new commissions reflecting contemporary culture and concerns. We work with leading creative teams and performers from around the world and while our theatres are in London, our work and educational programmes are accessed and experienced across the UK and globally through touring partnerships, cinema, radio, TV, streaming and online.

We are now seeking to recruit a leading communications professional to join our busy and growing Communications and External Affairs team, leading on the ROH public affairs and advocacy strategy. Leading a small team, you will focus on integrated corporate communications and PR campaigns that both enhance the ROH reputation and help to drive audiences and sales. Building effective relationships with key industry players, including journalists, influencers, and policy makers, you will help to secure funding and contribute to the ROH-wide strategic aims.

The successful candidate will be calm under pressure and have an innate ability to quickly grasp key issues and make effective decisions to tight deadlines. You will bring leadership and mentoring to the team - working closely with the Head of Communications and External Affairs to foster an inclusive, collaborative and creative work environment. You will have excellent planning and project management skills with the ability to prioritise and delegate as required.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven track record of working at a senior level in press and communications and/or government relations.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to build and nurture contacts across local, national and international press and media.
  • Experience of managing crisis communications issues in a busy environment.
  • The credibility and influence to act as an ambassador for the Royal Opera House both internally and externally, particularly with key internal senior stakeholders and across the press/media and government landscapes.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience of leading and developing your team to deliver strategic goals.
  • The ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people and multi-disciplinary teams in a busy working environment.

An awareness of and interest in developments in the public affairs space and the theatre, music, education, skills training, apprenticeship and regeneration sectors will be highly regarded.
