Stage Manager - Opera


Permanent Contract

Based in: Covent Garden, London

Salary: £49,592.40 per annum

Full time - 42.5 hours per week

This role will commence in August/September 2024

The Royal Opera House continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings.

We are seeking to recruit a Stage Manager - Opera to assist the Senior Stage Manager in effectively running and leading the Opera Stage Management team. This post will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of opera rehearsals and performances in conjunction with other stage management members and all relevant departments. They will ensure that all activities are carried out to the highest possible standard of safety, efficiency, and quality.

Our ideal candidate will be a dynamic and highly organised individual with significant stage management and theatre experience who can evidence the following:

  • Substantial opera stage management experience in a major producing theatre, preferably with experience in a repertory house.

  • Excellent orchestral score reading ability.

  • Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings. Excellent knowledge of mark out procedures.

  • Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety legislation relevant to theatre and able to undertake accurate and suitable risk assessments.

  • Proven experience of managing teams and projects with consistent high production standards.

  • Strong relationship management skills and clear communicator with a proactive approach to communication and good written communication skills.
