The role:

Our Technical, Production and Costume Department plays a leading part in ensuring our performances are of the highest quality by delivering technical excellence for every performance, rehearsal, and event.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Wigs & Make Up professional to join our busy team in a newly created specialist position, working across both Opera and Ballet. The postholder will develop their current Wigs, Hair and Make-Up skills by undertaking training on global majority hair and make-up, and subsequently sharing this knowledge and developing skills with the wider team.

What you`ll bring:

The ideal candidate will be a team player, with excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach, who can demonstrate:

  • A proven track record in performance-related Wig and Make-up work for major companies.
  • A keen interest in global majority hair care and make-up and textured hair techniques, and an enthusiasm for learning and developing these skills in the role and sharing that knowledge with the wider team.
  • An excellent background in a wide variety of wig and make-up preparation techniques including wig making.
  • Proven ability to realise make-up looks from an existing design.
  • An awareness of hair types and the latest hair and wig styling techniques and products, creating historical period styles, wig fittings, and carrying out routine alterations and re-fronting.
  • Demonstrable experience in running performances and providing excellent levels of customer care.
  • Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety implications of the role.

This role is a fixed term contract funded post with a focus on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives in Wigs and Make-up skills, specifically global majority hair care. The role will include training and external placements and sharing that learning across the department. Experience with our arts forms is not a pre-requisite for this position.
