Production Lighting Assistant Manager


Permanent position; 42.5 hours per week

£47,226.82 per annum

Based in: Covent Garden, London

The Royal Opera House aims to enrich people`s lives through opera and ballet. Our Technical, Production and Costume Department plays a leading part in ensuring our performances are of the highest quality by delivering technical excellence for every performance, rehearsal and event.

Our Lighting Department is committed to delivering artistic concepts and exceptional live performances whilst considering the impact of our work on the environment and sustainability. The Department is split into 4 specialist divisions; Production Lighting, Lighting Control and Visualisation, Follow Spots and Lighting Systems.

Following a recent promotion, we are looking to appoint an Assistant Manager to support one of four Production Lighting Teams, providing effective leadership for the lighting technicians, senior technicians, casuals and apprentices under their guidance. Working with a range of skilled professionals across the ballet and opera repertoire, this role will work collaboratively with the Senior Manager to ensure that productions are delivered to the highest standards.

Our ideal candidate will be a passionate, skilled professional with a pragmatic, collaborative approach and the ability to work consistently under pressure. They will be able to demonstrate:

  • Substantial technical experience in Lighting in a major producing theatre/repertory house (experience in the staging of opera and ballet productions will be advantageous).
  • A keen appreciation of both the technical and aesthetic aspects of performance, evidencing a broad range of technical skills and understanding.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with a positive leadership style and open approach to communication.
  • An understanding of CDM 2015 and other industry relevant health and safety legislation and electrical qualifications such as BS7909.
  • A passion for leading, mentoring and training others.
