Learning and Participation Manager (Opera)


£33,615 per annum, permanent contract

Full-time, 40 hours per week

Royal Opera House Learning and Participation devises and delivers an extensive nationwide learning and participation programme that enables people to actively engage with ballet, opera, music and theatre crafts.

We are now looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced manager to lead the collaboration between The Royal Opera and Learning and Participation to achieve an integrated approach to engagement for pupils, teachers, families, young talent, community groups, artists and the public.

The role will manage the existing opera programme (including our Youth Opera Company and the new national dramatic singing programme `Create and Sing Carmen`) and lead on the development of the opera programme within the Open Up project, to widen impact and deepen learning in line with ROH Learning and Participation Strategy.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience leading high quality vocal education programmes within a performing arts organization, for a range of learners including young people and all age community groups;
  • A passion for and understanding of opera and its potential within a learning context;
  • Comprehensive understanding of current issues in cultural and creative learning and understanding of best practice, particularly in opera and dramatic singing;
  • High level project management skills, with the ability to deliver projects of national significance effectively and efficiently, to budget and deadlines; and
  • The ability to work within a team and to lead, manage and motivate staff and artists to achieve outstanding results.

This position requires regular weekend and evening work, with work at our Learning and Participation office in Purfleet and other sites as directed.
