Orchestra Administrative Director

The ROH is seeking an Orchestra Administrative Director to lead and manage the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, providing highly efficient administrative support for all aspects of its work with the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet and working closely with the Music Directors of both companies to ensure the highest possible orchestral performance standards at all times.

As a member of the Executive Team, the Orchestra Administrative Director will contribute to the strategic and artistic plans of the Royal Opera House. The key responsibilities of the role include planning and scheduling; overseeing diverse and inclusive player recruitment; leading negotiations on collective agreements with the Musicians Union; overseeing media exploitation plans involving the orchestra; identifying specialist orchestras and ensembles for productions; policy development around issues such as musicians` wellbeing and Health & Safety; supporting players; and representing the Orchestra externally.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working as a senior manager in a major arts organisation and a thorough knowledge of the working practices and demands of a professional orchestra. He or she will have proven ability to lead and inspire a senior team; strong negotiating and contracting experience with a track record of working successfully with unions; excellent communication skills and the personality to deal with people at all levels in a confident and professional manner. The ability to react quickly to situations, be reliable and resilient, perform consistently under pressure and to respond positively to changing circumstances, is essential in this role.
