Head of Audience Labs


The Royal Opera House continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. The work of our Audiences and Media team focusses on growing the love, advocacy and demand for the art presented by the Royal Opera House.

We are now looking to appoint a Head of Audience Labs to set up and lead our innovation programme into immersive storytelling and dramatic experiences. We want to explore how the new technologies of our age can create ever more immersive experiences and stories that reach and connect a new audience to opera and ballet beyond those beyond those who already engage. Reporting to the Director of Audiences and Media, you will work closely with The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera artistic teams, as well as the Marketing Communications, Broadcast and Creative Studios teams to create a programme of innovative trials, that analyse and assess new digital techniques, products, kit and platforms to add to our audience engagement toolkit and/or our artistic programme.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader and collaborative team player, able to demonstrate:

-A track record of delivering successful audience innovation project and initiatives

-A thorough understanding of audience and social trends across platforms, and an analytical approach to validating hunches and hypotheses

-Ability to define the strategy and business model for these new concepts and art form development and deliver a comprehensive strategy

-Experience of using audience or customer data analytics to track and inform audience behaviour and trends

-Excellent project management skills with ability to drive forward a programme of work and able to use systematic approaches for measuring success

-Credibility and influence as an ambassador for the Royal Opera House internally and externally, and able to lead and inspire teams to deliver outstanding work and to get behind new ideas and concepts
