Scenic Painters

Starting salary: £35,600 - £38,900 dependent on experience

Fixed term contract - to October 2023

Based in Purfleet, Essex


The Royal Opera House produces the best opera and ballet in the world. This is your chance to join our talented team of Scenic Artists, based at our Production workshop in Purfleet. The Scenic Artists work under the direction of the Head Scenic Artist, transforming the briefs of internationally renowned designers and directors from the page onto one of the most famous stages in the world. Sometimes that will mean working on new productions from scratch. At other times the work involves repairing or modifying existing scenery, or even preparing cloths for external companies.

We are seeking to appoint to two roles. Our ideal candidates will have:

  • Degree level Art or Theatre course or apprenticeship appropriate to the role, or equivalent professional training
  • Excellent experience as a Scenic Artist working within the theatre environment, large scale work an advantage
  • Good knowledge and experience of scenic artistry using a wide variety of techniques and an understanding of period styles and history
  • A collaborative/Team player approach to working
