The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House is seeking to appoint to the position of:

Section Principal Oboe

We invite applications from outstanding players with considerable recent relevant professional experience. The successful candidate will be a musician of the highest calibre who is self-motivated, reliable and versatile with the ability to work under pressure as part of an established team.

Please note we will aim to contact shortlisted candidates by the end of Friday 17th June.


We intend to hold screened first round auditions in London 1st- 5th July 2022.

Our preference will be to hear shortlisted candidates in person, but should you be unable to attend on the scheduled dates we will accept a recorded audition to be submitted by 9am, Tuesday 28 June 2022 (full instructions will be sent to shortlisted candidates).


First round audition requirements will be:

1. Orchestral excerpts only as per enclosed PDF.


We intend to hold second round auditions on 19th July 2022 in person only.

Second round audition requirements will be:

1. The first movement of the Mozart oboe concerto (without cadenza), accompanied (ROH will provide an accompanist, but candidates should bring their own piano part).

2. Orchestral excerpts as per enclosed PDF
